Zadar Sea Organ
In Zadar, in Croatia, there is a musical instrument that plays thanks to the sea waves. It is the Sea Organ, a marvelous architectural work that produces a melody with every movement of the sea.
The installation, opened to the public in 2005, is located at the port of the Croatian city, not too far from the cruise ship docking area, along the waterfront. It was created by Nikola Bašić as part of the city's port rehabilitation program. The best thing you can do? Sit down and listen to a melody that is always different.
Zadar Sea Organ
From afar, it looks like a staircase descending towards the sea. The Sea Organ in Zadar is made up of huge steps, divided into seven sections of about 10 meters each. Below the steps, at low tide, there are 35 pipes made of polyethylene of varying lengths, diameters, and inclinations that create a constantly changing melody due to the wave movement.
The continuous motion and differing strength, direction, and tide create melodies that are always distinct; the pipes produce sounds according to seven chords and five different pitches.
Every day, hundreds of people sit on the steps and let themselves be lulled by the sound of the sea.
