Tenerife is the largest island in the Canary Islands off the coast of Morocco, a true treasure of fantastic natural landscapes floating in the Atlantic Ocean with desert areas, lush pine forests, valleys with canyons and exotic flora, protected natural areas of volcanic origin, and above all, a large number of spectacular beaches kissed by the sun all year round.
Its wild nature and its incredible beaches are the major tourist attraction that has made Tenerife an essential destination for beach lovers, even during the mild winter months due to its always pleasant climate with temperatures ranging from 60°F to 73°F (16°C to 23°C), with sunny days reflecting on a crystalline sea.
Not surprisingly, Tenerife boasts the highest number of blue flag beaches among all the Canary Islands, with 12 beaches scattered along its coasts recognized with the coveted award based on 32 sustainability criteria, with particular attention to the quality of bathing waters, waste management, purification efficiency, sustainable tourism, and the enhancement of natural areas.

Given its volcanic origin, Tenerife has a rich variety of black sand beaches coupled with golden sand bays, some specifically designed for tourism while others retain a wilder, untouched nature.
With over 300 km of coastline, Tenerife offers beaches for every taste, from the more secluded ones waiting to be discovered to those equipped with every comfort ideal for families.
A map shows that the southwestern part of the island hosts the largest tourist areas, with wide stretches of golden sand, numerous accommodations, and safe waters for swimming. In contrast, the northern area of the island features dark sandy beaches and spectacular bays sheltered by cliffs.
Best Beaches - Southern Tenerife
The southern part of Tenerife is the most tourism-oriented of the entire island thanks to its warm climate year-round, luxury resorts, easy access to paradise beaches, and shallow waters ideal for spending days by the sea with family.
El Duque Beach
This exclusive bay located at the western end of Costa Adeje, nestled among some of the island's most luxurious resorts, stands out for its beautiful landscapes characterized by the contrast between ivory-colored sand and turquoise sea, and the quality of its services.
Clean, well-equipped, and elegant, surrounded by luxury boutiques and fashionable restaurants, Playa El Duque is a perfect beach for swimming and relaxing, ideal for the whole family. Additionally, from here, you can enjoy some of the most spectacular sunsets in all of Tenerife.
Playa de Los Gigantes - Guios Beach
This small sandy beach lies at the foot of the imposing cliffs of Tenerife, which rise 800 meters above sea level in a postcard landscape of black sand and clear water, ideal for snorkeling.
It is a tranquil bay sheltered from the wind with one of the most spectacular views on the island. Nearby is the Los Gigantes marina, from where numerous boat excursions depart for dolphin and whale watching.
La Tejita - El Médano
At the southernmost part of Tenerife lies Playa De La Tejita, one of the island's most beautiful natural beaches. It is a bay next to the Red Mountain Natural Reserve, which gives it its characteristic reddish color and a unique view that makes it one of the most stunning beaches in Tenerife.
Fine sand, turquoise waters, and steep volcanic rock formations lining the coast are the distinctive features of this secluded little beach, so remote that it has become a popular spot among nature lovers and naturists.
Adjacent to Playa de la Tejita, with magnificent views of the Red Mountain, is Playa del Médano, the largest beach in Tenerife. Besides its vast stretch of light golden sand and its windy bay, this beach has a wild atmosphere exposed to strong easterly winds, making it an ideal destination for surfing, windsurfing, and all water sports enthusiasts.
Playa Fañabé
In the exclusive region of Costa Adeje is the beautiful Playa Fañabé, a popular destination among bathers due to its crystal-clear waters, golden sand, and excellent facilities. Beyond its stunning seaside landscape, this beach offers a wide selection of water sports or the chance to relax in the sun among live music and numerous trendy restaurants, bars, and cafes.
Playa del Camisón
Located between Costa Adeje and Los Cristianos, Playa Del Camisón is a charming palm-studded beach ideal for families. This golden sand beach close to all activities in the major southern cities sits on a small peninsula surrounded by clear and calm waters and equipped with all services.
Playa Del Camisón is also the perfect place for an evening cocktail or a lovely picnic at sunset right on the beach or in the nearby green area.
Best Beaches North Tenerife
The northern coast of the island has a rougher character but is rich in hidden bays and elegant urban beaches waiting to be discovered.
Playa de las Teresitas - Santa Cruz
Las Teresitas Beach on the northeastern coast of Tenerife is a white sand beach just steps away from the island's main city, Santa Cruz. Protected by breakwaters that create perfect swimming conditions, the beach boasts a two-kilometer stretch of sand imported from the Sahara Desert, palm trees, and turquoise waters.
The beauty of this beach lies particularly in the peaks of the volcanic mountains that frame and protect its authentic atmosphere, far from the tourist bustle of Tenerife and hosting some of the best hiking trails on the island.
Playa Jardin
Another urban beach, this time with black sand, is Playa Jardin, one of three beaches designed by the artist of the Canaries Cesár Manrique. Surrounding the black sand is a lush garden full of tropical plants, rocky caves, and waterfalls, mixing natural and artistic elements with a stunning view of the majestic and often snow-capped peak of Mount Teide, the 12,198-foot volcano in the background.
Playa Jardin is also one of the best beaches for water sports and has a designated section for surfers. Playa Jardin is divided into three sections: Castillo Beach, Punta Brava Beach, and Charcón Beach. Each beach is connected by the promenade with numerous restaurants, cafes, playgrounds for children, and live music shows.
Playa El Bollullo, La Orotava
The stunning Playa El Bollullo is considered one of the most beautiful and authentic beaches in Tenerife. Nestled in the picturesque Valley of La Orotava, Playa El Bollullo maintains an unspoiled, wild environment, hidden from large tourist flows and primarily frequented by locals.
Its vast stretch of volcanic black sand, scenic trails lined with banana plantations, and cliffs dropping into the sea, along with the absence of shops, create a striking visual impression.
Antequera Beach - Igueste de San Andrés
This beach is located north of Santa Cruz de Tenerife and is not accessible by car. When the tide is low, you can enjoy a magnificent sandy bay surrounded by natural landscape in the Anaga Rural Park. To reach it, you must take a hiking trail that is not very easy starting from Igueste de San Andrés; alternatively, the beach can be reached by boat from San Andrés.
Las Vistas Beach
Another blue flag beach on the southern coast of Tenerife is Las Vistas Beach, well-maintained and perfect for families because of its safe bathing conditions and easy access. Its vast stretch of golden sand, about 850 meters long, ensures ample space for everyone to relax on the beach in front of the artificial island topped by a large fountain.
In addition to providing all the conditions for a relaxing day at the beach, Las Vistas Beach is ideal for various water sports or for enjoying on a beautiful promenade lined with kiosks, restaurants, and beach shops.
