Starting in July, it will be possible to request and renew passports at the Italian Post Office offices throughout Italy. Here's what you need to know about this new service, part of the Polis project.

A small revolution is coming that will improve passport issuance times. The passport can be requested at all Post Office locations in Italy.

Following a pilot phase that started on March 14 in two municipalities in the province of Bologna, the passport issuance will be gradually extended to all post offices in Italy and not just to Italian municipalities with fewer than 15,000 residents.

This was announced by the General Director of Poste Italiane, Giuseppe Lasco, at the conclusion of a meeting with the Minister of the Interior, Matteo Piantedosi, regarding the progress of the Polis project of Poste Italiane.

"The big news is that starting in July, after the necessary regulatory steps are completed," he states, "this service will progressively cover post offices across Italy, without distinctions between small and large centers."

Currently, the service is active in 31 offices and by the end of May, 130 municipalities will be involved in the pilot project.

The initial idea was to extend the service to all municipalities with less than 15,000 residents (about 7,000 municipalities); starting in July, however, the service will be gradually extended to all post offices across Italy.

Passport Renewal
Passport

To request or renew the passport, you must go to the nearest post office in your municipality and present a valid identity document, your social security number, two photographs, pay the office fee of 42.50 euros for the regular passport, and a stamp duty of 73.50 euros.

Thanks to the available technological platform, the operator will collect the information and biometric data of the applicant (fingerprints and photo), then send the documentation to the relevant police office.

In the case of renewal, you must also present the old passport or a copy of the report of loss or theft of the old document.

The new passport can be delivered to the applicant's home by Poste Italiane. The payment for the service will be made upon delivery, with a cost of 9.05 euros.

Other Services

Other Services

The passport issuance service complements the other services already available at the Polis post offices, where you can collect civil registration and vital certificates, pension certificates, and certificates for voluntary jurisdiction processes.

In the coming months, it will also be possible to request the electronic identity card.
