Nebrodi Park is the largest protected natural area in Sicily, located in the northern part of the island, between the provinces of Messina and Palermo, bordered to the north by the Tyrrhenian Sea and to the south by Mount Etna.

This is a beautiful and picturesque green area, a preferred refuge for trekking enthusiasts, nature lovers, and those interested in flora and fauna, offering numerous fascinating hiking trails and various villages to visit where one can enjoy moments of absolute relaxation.

Nebrodi Park is divided into 4 different zones, called Zone A, B, C, and D.

In Zone A, which extends over nearly 25,000 hectares, you will find the highest peaks and it is designated for grazing and agricultural activities, although hiking can be done both on foot and on horseback.

Zone B - which extends over 47,000 hectares - features large forested areas and others dedicated to grazing.

Zone C contains important recreational facilities, while Zone D - also known as the preparco - encompasses the outermost part of the Nebrodi Park natural area.

The municipalities located within the Sicilian nature reserve total 24: 19 in the province of Messina, 3 in the province of Catania, and 2 in the free municipal consortium of Enna.

One of the most famous and charming towns in Nebrodi Park is definitely San Marco d'Alunzio.

It is situated about 550 meters above sea level and has a remarkably important historical, artistic, and cultural heritage with 22 churches, 4 museums, 4 libraries, and a stunning Greek temple from the 4th century BC dedicated to Hercules.

The village has a perfectly preserved historic center and expansive viewpoints offering breathtaking views of the Tyrrhenian coast, from Cefalù to Capo d'Orlando and even the Aeolian Islands.

In local taverns, be sure to try the traditional baked macaroni, the "lattupitte" (a type of fried dough), grilled meat and fish, and, of course, the Sicilian cannoli.

You cannot visit Nebrodi Park without stopping by Bronte, the town famous for its pistachios. Its historic center is very beautiful and suggestive, featuring a castle and the lovely Church of Santa Maria.

Another village within the nature reserve worth visiting is Randazzo. The town is located on the slopes of Mount Etna and is also known as "the city of a hundred churches," many of which still exist and are open for visitors.

Randazzo is situated at the center of three protected areas: the Etna Park, Nebrodi Park, and the Alcantara River Park.

In the province of Messina is Mistretta, a beautiful village in the Park, also known as the "Saddle of the Nebrodi" due to its particular shape. From its viewpoints, one can enjoy a spectacular 360-degree panorama of land and sea, up to the Aeolian Islands.

The landscape is further enhanced in the winter months by the snow-capped peaks surrounding the village. Longi is another of the "gems" of Nebrodi Park, located on a kind of natural embankment, protected to the north by the magnificent Rocche del Crasto.

The village has a strategic position within the nature reserve, nestled between the sea and snow-capped mountains, making it the perfect place for a completely relaxing vacation.
