Christmas Markets in Munich 2023, the most beautiful with dates and program

A Munich is home to the most charming Christmas markets in Germany.

The wooden stalls offer the best Bavarian food and the essential rivers of beer. Guided by the enticing stalls that release a pleasant scent of Glühwein, which will accompany you throughout your journey, and illuminated by the impressive Christmas tree, you can experience the magical atmosphere of Christmas in Bavaria.

Starting from November 27, 2023, Christmas arrives in Marienplatz: here are the dates, information, and news about the Christmas markets in Munich.

In the Bavarian capital, the traditional Christmas market, the Christkindlmarkt, returns once again this year and will be held until December 24, 2023.

It is said that the origins of the market date back to the so-called Saint Nicholas Markets of the 14th century. According to documents, the first Saint Nicholas fair took place in 1642 on Kaufingerstraße near the Bella Tower.

During the Enlightenment, the event was renamed Christmarkt, and in 1972, after numerous relocations, the Münchner Christkindlmarkt was set up in its permanent location in the city center.

As you stroll among the stalls offering traditional crafts, vintage toys, aromas, spices, and delicacies from Bavarian cuisine and mulled wine, surrounded by the inviting scents of caramelized apples, almonds, and gingerbread cookies, make your way to the majestic Christmas Tree located in the center of the square, which shines with 2,500 candles.

Just a few steps from the Square, on Neuhauser Straße, in the heart of the pedestrian zone, you'll find the largest Nativity Market in all of Germany, where you'll find everything to create your nativity scene, from lanterns for the stable to straw for the ox and donkey, from the comet to the gifts of the Magi.

Every evening at precisely 5:30 PM, do not miss the sweet melodies of Advent played live from the town hall balcony. For half an hour, you can enjoy good traditional Bavarian music performed by alpine choirs, international folk songs, and brass ensemble.

The Christmas tree in the square will remain lit until January 6, 2023.
