A small but wonderful rainbow of colors, immersed in the nature and peace that only vineyards can offer: it is the church of Coazzolo, a small village in Piedmont, in the province of Asti, located in the green and gentle hills that create the landscape of the area between Monferrato and the Langhe.
This evocative and very unique structure - also known as the Chapel of Moscato due to the numerous vineyards surrounding it - was designed and created by the famous British artist David Tremlett, at the request of the municipal administration of the Piedmontese town, giving new life to the facade of the Church of the Blessed Virgin Mary of Mount Carmel, a place of worship built towards the end of the 17th century.
Coazzolo Church
The church of Coazzolo is located in the open countryside and offers its visitors - in addition to the original and colorful facade - a breathtaking view of the nearby hills and, in the distance, Mont Viso.
To create his work, Tremlett used a very special painting technique called Wall Drawing, using different colors for different parts of the structure. The body of the building is painted with a shade of Siena Earth, olive green was used for the sacristy and base, and yellow for the atrium and porch.
The technique used by Tremlett and the chosen colors truly make the visual experience of visiting the church of Coazzolo unique, making it one with the landscape of the Piedmontese hill.
The church of Coazzolo is not the only attraction in this beautiful area. Right next to the place of worship, for example, is the Vigna dei Pastelli, a stunning vineyard from which to enjoy a truly unique panorama.
The area's tourist offerings are also complemented by the culinary delights that can be enjoyed in the restaurants and numerous wineries that populate the territory.
